4. Grammangal
 

Gram-Mangal is a registered voluntary Organization in Maharashtra , India . It was established in 1982, by the eminent educationist and social worker, late "Padmashree" Anutai Wagh, and Prof. Ramesh Panse. When these two activists, along with a few other volunteers, entered the tribal area near Maharashtra-Gujarat border, the village of Aine-Dabhon was in dire straits. Let alone the "luxuries" like electricity and basic education, there was no drinking water available! The two activists started thinking about how to gradually transform the village into a self-reliant community.

Ms. Sudha Cannan
HEAD – PUBLIC SYSTEMS PRACTICE


 

Ms. Sudha Cannan heads the Public Systems Practice at Ma Foi. She has fourteen years of experience post her Masters in Commerce (Personnel Management) and Diploma in Journalism.

 

Her specializations include closely associating with CEO's and Decision Makers of organizations and successfully support in turning around companies. Her core competency in Training is Self-management, Personal Effectiveness and Stress management. She was the Project Manager for the Ma Foi Management Consultants training association with the MHSDP, the pilot project of the Maharashtra State Government Health Systems Department in association with the World Bank in sensitizing the Health Service Providers in selected Rural Hospitals to customer needs and service orientation, besides team building, networking and leadership skills and motivation. She was a part of the team that worked for the Organizational Capacity Analysis of the TamilNadu Health Systems for the implementation of the World Bank project in TamilNadu. She now heads the replication of the MHSDP project in 17 district hospitals in Maharashtra .

 

She has recently done a program for the Tamil Nadu Police Force – a pilot project on introduction of the concept of Station Reception Officers in all Police Stations in Chennai. She trained 102 of these officers in Customer Relationship, Role Understanding, Communication Skills, Motivation, Responsibility etc.(More....)

Susan Bullough-Khare
Resource persons

Susan Bullough-Khare received her educational training in England where, in addition to teaching she also worked as an Occupational Therapist in a psychiatric unit and a House Parent in a children's home. For more that two decades, she lived in Ireland where, in addition to raising two sons, she ran the Intercultural Education Programme for the Kerry Education Centre and worked as a freelance consultant specialising in Arts and Cultural Education.

As well as projects for schools and career development courses for teachers and teacher training students Susan has conducted workshops for women, minority groups, children with special needs and arts festivals. She has also produced educational resources, including a video entitled “Life and Crafts of India” and two educational packs – one on the Banjaras and the other on Indian Jewellery.

She has contributed to conferences and workshops in Ireland , England , Holland , Portugal and France . She has designed educational programmes for Travellers and gypsies in England , Scotland and Ireland .

Susan's India experience has spanned a decade and a half and she has grass-roots experience of the work of artists and crafts people in many different States including Kerala, Rajasthan, West Bengal , Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. She has used her arts and intercultural education programmes to develop exchange projects between schools in India and Ireland .

These interactions over a long period of time have given her a valuable perspective of India . Susan's work in Pune has been extensive. She has conducted innumerable workshops with professionals, non-professionals, teachers and students, using art as a significant channel of communication and continues to be a significant resource person for formal and non-formal art programmes for learning and self development
.  

Susan's professional expertise is available for education and non education work - wherever art can be used as a meaningful self discovery tool.

As a photographer, her work has been exhibited, appeared in a number of books, anthologies, journals, magazines and newspapers. Books include, ‘DANGS, Journeys Into The Heartland' and ‘ KUTCH ,Triumph Of The Spirit'.

She says, “I was fortunate to grow up in a multicultural areas of London . This gave me access to a variety of different cultures and peoples early on in life. It also influenced my getting involved in anti-racism and equality education. I then realised, through my own teaching experience, the huge potential of Arts Education. Art is a vehicle for individual development, increased self-confidence and personal expression. It also provides opportunities for communication and interaction between people of all ages, colours and religions. The Arts can give everyone and anyone a voice and it can build bridges towards mutual understanding and respect.”




Mr. Zubin Balsara

Mr. Zubin Balsara, is the Executive Director of the WCCL Foundation and Drum Circle Facilitator .

Mr. Arthur Hull, who is the pioneer of Drum Circle Facilitation, has trained Zubin in Hawaii (USA).

Zubin has worked on a 4 month long project with New Rhythms Foundation (San Francisco, USA), where he facilitated 64 drum circles for special populations dealing with Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and autism. This project culminated in a book on drum circle facilitation for special populations. This book is co-authored by Zubin and Ms. Heather MacTavish (executive Director – New Rhythms Foundation). It is to be published soon.

Zubin' s work has led him to work with at-risk adults and substance abuse victims, individuals dealing with Parkinson's, Autism, Mental Retardation, Broca's Aphasia, corporate clients, School Children and college youth.

Zubin uses a unique blend of world rhythms, songs, guided visualizations and metaphors to address the needs of the client group.

Career Summary
 

Mrs. Carina Thörn has a degree of Bachelor of Science in social work since January 1990. Carina is now continuing on her master degree. During the working period she has taken several courses in different social subjects concerning social work.

 

Carina has been working as a senior social services officer in a social services department for about 12 years. Carina has been working with exercise of authority, social services act, investigations, preventation work, treatment and motivation work. The target group was mostly children 0-20 years and their families. Target groups has different kind of problem as, drug abuse, sexual abuse, criminality, relation problems etc.

  Carina started the work at the Department of Social work, spring 2002.
 
Carina work as a co course coordinator for students who plan to do their practice placement period abroad. Carina gives advice and support, arrange preparatory seminaries and deals with the relevant administration before departure. Carina is also responsible for the students and supervisors during the practice placement period. She is also responsible teacher and graduating them after the practice placement period, 15 and 20 credit points.
 
Carina is responsible for the network (concerning practice placement) that the Department in Social Work has with organisations and universities all over the world. Carina is also holding seminars for supervisors in Sweden .
 
Carina has also been in India . She was doing her practice placement 20 weeks, spring 1989 in India .
